Honouring Our Métis Mothers is a collaborative art project dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the lives of Red River Métis/Michif women.
This Louis Riel Day weekend saw an incredible community turnout for the unveiling of the artwork.
Spanning 63 feet and honoring 400 women, the installation was created by a collective of 100 Red River Métis artists from across the country, locally, and even beyond Canada’s borders.
Launched last year on Louis Riel Day by artist @tfehr60, the project brought artists together weekly—first at @museestbonifacemuseum for six months, then at WAG-Qaumajuq, with some participating remotely.
This living, collective tribute is an act of remembrance and honour.
Congratulations to all who contributed, and heartfelt thanks to @manitobametisfederation for supporting Elders’ travel and @mbartscouncil for their support of the artist.
